Given that thus is a blog that celebrates life and cooking in the tropics I thought I should start with my market buys for the week.  There is one of the many forms of asian greens (code for I can't remember), okra, local limes, mangoes, mint, dragon fruit, rambutan and snake beans (inside of which hides black eyed peas).  I also bought some local scallops and prawns.
The rambutan have just come in season and next to the seafood that was the most expensive thing.  Still only $8 for that large bag. All of this bounty was only $50.
I am still learning what to do with things I find in the markets.  I am sure this will lead to some interesting posts in the future...

Hello Andrea

Forgive the delay in my getting back to you. I tried to email you first, but could not find your email address. Thanks for your kind words. I'm glad you like the chocolate chip cookies a tad "crunchy". I too prefer them made this way, but do also have a couple of "soft" variations as well. Thanks again for taking the time to visit. Next time I'll have cookies made and waiting for you!.................Mark

Beautiful Rambutan picture. They are actually what we call in the US Lycees, right? When I lived in California I was able to sample them fresh. Amazing. You are so lucky :)

Andrea - on the Bobotie - Yes, I agree that a mango chutney (or any sweet chutney) is the right way to go - I wouldn't fancy it with custard. Apricot jam is okay in the cooking of it but not just on top. Quite a lot of S.A. food (Afrikaans food really, as compared to Brit.) has fruit in it. Canned peaches are a favorite - really great food.

Your blog is lovely - I see you are a tropical fruit person.
